My favourite painting so far

This painting was done during a class exercise and was completed in two sessions. I did not like the idea of painting from a photograph as it was a 2-D representation of reality. I did not think that I would be able to come up with anything that I would like but I did. I liked the more relaxed brush strokes and the liberal experimentation with colours to depict the scene that resulted in an Autumn-like feel. I was surpised that I managed to do the reflection of the trees credibly. But because I was painting from the picture, I could not get the feeling of depth and therefore I feel that the flaw of this painting is that it is rather 2-dimensional like the photo. Nevertheless, this practice piece did give me a little more confidence to be less regimented in the way I paint.
