Shading has never been my strength in drawing. That was why I have always done line drawings in ink until I met an artist who gave me the basics on shading and through much of his encouragement and guidance in just one morning, I was able to produce the piece to the right. It is not perfect but at least it is something I have never attempted before and the result is not too bad. Later that evening, I was at a park and sitting under a tree looking across to a row of tall and graceful Copperpod trees. Recalling what I had learned I sat there for about an hour to draw just one of these trees and realised that I really need to practise more often. It is an exciting new discovery for me and though I still love line drawings, this new way of making a scene come alive is something I would like to experiment further.
